Rice Protein

Rice protein is extracted from brown rice and is one of the most hypoallergenic plant proteins on the market. It is high in methionine but low in lysine, which is why it is almost always blended with pea or soy protein to make a complete amino profile.

Why It Matters

Rice protein is the gentle plant option. It is easy on the gut, low-allergen and clean-tasting. On its own it cannot match whey for muscle building because of the lysine gap, but pea-plus-rice blends close the gap and match whey-equivalent results in clinical training studies.

How to Spot It on a Label

The label may say brown rice protein, rice protein concentrate, or rice protein isolate. Heavy-metal testing matters for rice protein because some rice supplies carry elevated arsenic. Look for third-party testing certifications on any rice-protein product you plan to use long-term.
