Whey Concentrate

Whey protein concentrate (WPC) is the standard 70 to 80 percent protein form of whey. It contains more lactose, fat and bioactive milk fractions than isolate, which makes it richer-tasting and significantly cheaper. WPC is the value sweet spot for most lifters.

Why It Matters

If you tolerate dairy, whey concentrate is the cheapest legitimate whey on the market. The extra lactose and fat are negligible for healthy adults and they actually make the powder taste more like milk. Concentrate also retains more native milk fractions (lactoferrin, immunoglobulins) that are stripped out during deeper isolate filtration.

How to Spot It on a Label

Look for 'whey protein concentrate' as the first or only ingredient. Protein content per scoop is usually 21 to 24g out of a 30g scoop. Cheap brands like Nutricost, Now Sports and Body Fortress live almost entirely in the concentrate category.
