Instantized
Instantized refers to whey protein powder that has been treated with a small amount of soy or sunflower lecithin to improve mixability. The lecithin coats each protein particle and helps it disperse in water without clumping.
Why It Matters
Plain whey is hydrophobic at the surface, which is why non-instantized powder forms stubborn clumps and floating dry pockets in a shaker. Instantizing solves this by giving each particle an emulsifier coating that lets water penetrate immediately.
Nearly every mainstream protein powder on the market today is instantized. The technique adds negligible cost and zero downsides for the user, aside from a tiny dose of lecithin that some strict elimination diets might want to track.
How to Spot It on a Label
Look for instantized in the marketing copy or soy lecithin or sunflower lecithin near the end of the ingredient deck. If a tub says non-instantized or pure, expect more clumping in a basic shaker and consider using a blender bottle or whisk.
