Subscribe and Save

Subscribe and Save is the Amazon (and increasingly other retailer) discount program where you commit to a recurring delivery of a product in exchange for a 5 to 15 percent discount. For high-volume protein buyers, Subscribe and Save can be the cheapest legitimate way to buy whey.

Why It Matters

If you go through 5 to 10 lbs of protein a month, Subscribe and Save discounts compound into meaningful savings ($60 to $100 per year for an average user). The catch is delivery flexibility: you have to manage delivery dates to avoid stockpiling or running out. Amazon also runs occasional 'extra 5%' promotions on top of the base discount.

How to Spot It on a Label

On Amazon, the Subscribe and Save toggle appears next to the price on most eligible products. Walmart's '+ Save with auto-delivery' is the equivalent. iHerb has a similar 'AutoShip' option with smaller discounts. The discount is calculated against the current price, not against any promotional sale price.
