Protein Bar
Protein bars are solid-form protein snacks combining whey, casein, milk protein isolate, soy or pea protein with binders, fats, sweeteners and sometimes chocolate coating. A typical bar delivers 15 to 25g of protein in a 50 to 70g serving with 150 to 250 calories.
Why It Matters
Protein bars are the most convenient protein format and the most expensive per gram. The category spans dessert-style bars (ONE, Built), whole-food bars (RXBAR, Atlas) and high-protein meal-replacement bars (Quest). Read the ingredient list carefully: many 'protein' bars carry as much fat and sugar as a candy bar.
How to Spot It on a Label
Look at protein-per-gram ratio: a good bar hits at least 20 percent protein by weight (12g protein in a 60g bar). Check the binder: cheap bars use rice syrup and IMO fiber; premium bars use whole nuts and dates. Sugar alcohols (erythritol, maltitol) can cause digestive upset in sensitive people.
